March To-Do List

Posted on March 16th, 2017 by Richard Hill

When it comes to outdoor chores, many of us would prefer to avoid them. However, after winter, it is important to do some outdoor chores to clean up and get ready for spring! The cold weather can actually do a lot of damage to your lawn, porch, etc., so you will want to repair this before starting on any other spring projects. Fortunately, this past winter in Chicago has been relatively mild, but there are still some outdoor chores to complete this March.

Winter Damage

From ice to wind, winter can wreak havoc on parts of your home. One simple chore is to go around your lawn and pick up any branches that are scattered about. You will also want to go around and remove any winter-worn branches from your trees and/or shrubs. One outdoor area that you may not think of checking are your gutters; ice and other debris can cause your gutters to become damaged, something you definitely want to fix before April showers come!

Get Ready to Garden

One of the best things about spring is being able to garden and see flowers bloom. However, in order to ensure that your garden will come in full force, you will want to make your first application of spring fertilizer this March. Additionally, watch for any overgrown or damaged shrubs, and trim or replace them. Your gardening tools have not seen the light of day for a while, so sharpen your shears, hoe, and shovel, and then give your wheelbarrow tire a pump.

Though each home is different, cleaning up around the lawn and checking for any damaged areas is always a good idea after winter! It is still chilly out, but you will be glad that you have completed these outdoor chores once nice weather comes; that way, you can enjoy the day without a chore in sight!
